Last weekend, on Sunday, March 14th, the 63rd annual Grammy Awards aired on CBS. This was an exciting night for many artists, as well as the fans.
While the show looked different this year due to Covid, the performances and presentations were still enjoyable in my opinion.
Being able to watch performances and hear stories from Dua Lipa, Black Pumas, Post Malone, HAIM, and every other artist was uplifting after a year of minimal live music.
Watching Beyonce make history with her 28th Grammy win was so inspiring. Her impact on the music industry is truly remarkable and unmatched.
I always enjoy looking at different red carpet looks for any award show, and fashion at The Grammys this year didn’t disappoint!
The red carpet looks this year included various styles, most of which were paired with a matching face mask or facial covering. I applaud The Grammys for their efforts to keep every individual safe during the event this year.
Two performances that stood out to me the most, not surprisingly, were Harry Styles and Taylor Swift.
For the first time, Harry was nominated for 3 Grammys and performed at the show. He won the award for Best Pop Solo Performance for his hit song Watermelon Sugar.
This was Taylor Swift’s 11th Grammy win; she was awarded Album of the Year for folklore.
I could lie and say I haven’t been talking about this all week, but to be honest I think my mom is sick of hearing about how Harry performed at The Grammys for the first time. So, here I am blogging about it.
I mean, would this really be Sydney’s blog if I didn’t talk about Harry Styles and Taylor Swift?
For Harry’s red carpet look, he wore a Gucci suit with mixing patterns and a purple feather boa. The patterns on his coat and vest clashed in the best way possible. His iconic rings, boots and boa tied the outfit together. Boas seemed to be his theme of the night, as he also wore one on stage.
During his performance of Watermelon Sugar, he wore another Gucci suit. This sleek leather suit with the green boa contrasts many of the vibrant outfits he sports, but I think everyone can admit he pulled it off.
What I admire about Harry, especially watching him grow over the years since his early One Direction days, is that he has flourished into someone who is not afraid to be himself. His stage presence is captivating, and the way he carries himself in general is respectable in many ways.
Taylor’s red carpet dress not only fits the spring season, but also ties into her aesthetic of the outdoorsy folklore reality she has created over the past few months. The outfit also incorporates pastel colors from her album, Lover, that she has been unable to tour due to Covid. It was an Oscar de la Renta dress, with Christian Louboutin shoes.
Taylor’s performance was everything my folklore/evermore obsession wanted. Her ability to combine songs from both albums to tell a story from a whimsical cabin in the forest reflects her true dedication to the stories she has been telling with these two albums over the past 8 months.
She performed a mashup of her songs cardigan, august, and willow. With this being the first live performance of willow, she exceeded any expectations I had for this song.
As a long time swiftie, I love the way Taylor explores all music genres, hair styles, and clothing. It’s so obvious she never fails to fit all of them!
I am so proud of her success and hard work over the years, and I cannot wait to hear more of the re-records from her older albums that she is working on!
Overall, Harry and Taylor are two people I look up to immensely. I have been following them for years, and their music has helped me through many times in my life. I am proud of both of them for their many achievements.
The red carpet looks and performances at The Grammys this year were very impressive. I am excited to see how the artists featured, nominated, and awarded will continue their careers.
