Life of a Soon-To-Be College Graduate

Hi friends! Long time no…read? Post? IDK, but I am so excited to be writing this post!

Lately I have done a lot of reflecting on this year. I’ve come to realize this has been one of the best years of my life. Let me do a recap of what happened while I was MIA.

At the end of my Spring semester at UH, I was looking forward to having a summer of finding new hobbies and spending time discovering more of myself. I am so grateful that the summer brought me just that.

I read roughly 30+ books over the summer. Spoiler alert for future posts: Colleen Hoover now has my heart. I spent time outside (bought my own bike!), hung out with friends more, and of course, found new music.

The highlight of my summer was my vacation with my best friends. In June, we spent a week in California, and then flew to Kailua-Kona, Hawaii to spend a week there.

Words cannot express how grateful I am to have been able to go on our trip. We made memories that will last us a lifetime while snorkeling, hiking, swimming, and eating some of the best food in the world! We met some amazing people, and it was fascinating to learn about and honor Hawaiian culture.

Upon my return to Texas, I had to start preparing for my last semester of college. I moved back to campus in August to start classes. Life was suddenly in full swing being back in person, going to events, and hanging out with friends.

I won’t lie and say it was always easy, because the transition back to in person life was overwhelming at first. However, I found comfort in the fact that everyone around me seemed to have the same struggle, and we got through it together.

My classes this semester were some of my favorites. I discovered my passion for SEO through various team projects and research! I gained a deeper understanding of the digital marketing world, and I am continuously in awe of this industry.

Additionally, I was able to create an entire marketing plan on my own, as well as an international marketing plan with a team. Long story short, I’m your girl if you are ever curious about marketing at Lush Cosmetics or Whataburger!

Outside of classes, I was able to serve on the Executive Board for the American Marketing Association at UH as the Director of Technology this semester. I can confidently say that being involved in this organization has completely changed my college experience. Not only did I grow my marketing and leadership skills, but I also made life-long friends.

Another highlight of my semester I feel is important to mention: Taylor Swift re-released her RED album (aka one of the greatest albums of all time). Yes, I did have a breakdown, and sometimes I can’t believe she is a real person. I mean, a collab with Phoebe Bridgers? Literally my dream.

Moving on!

As this semester comes to a close, I cannot believe it will be my last at UH. Looking back at 14 year old Syd, I hope that she would be proud of where I am today. I graduate with my BBA in Marketing in 2 DAYS!

I have learned so much about myself this semester, personally and professionally. While it was challenging at times, I know that the support of my friends and family got me through it. It is an unfamiliar feeling to know that I won’t be returning to UH in the spring, but I am so excited for where life will take me next!

I hope you all enjoyed my December recap! Stay tuned for updates on life after graduation (and if Taylor Swift decides to re-release Speak Now or 1989 next…iykyk)!
