My Favorites From Fearless (Taylor’s Version)

Last week, Taylor Swift released the re-recorded version of her iconic album, Fearless.
It is now named Fearless (Taylor’s Version).
Within a week, it is the top release of 2021 so far. It is also surpassing The Beatles by debuting as number 1 in the UK.

The album originally was released in 2008. I was 9 years old at the time. To say this album was a highlight of my childhood would be an understatement.
This album was one of the first CDs I can recall having, and my sister and I would listen to it nonstop on her CD player while making dance routines to each song.
I have a lot of good memories with this album, so to hear adult Taylor record these songs again, as I am an adult now too, was emotional.
This was definitely a change in pace from the music Taylor has been releasing in the past year with folklore and evermore, and she even mentioned this by tweeting the post below when she released the From The Vault song Mr. Perfectly Fine (Taylor’s Version).

Needless to say, Fearless (Taylor’s Version) is everything my 9-year-old self could dream of me listening to at 22. I think my younger self would be proud to know how much I still cry to White Horse, or how much I still scream The Way I Loved You.
With this exciting re-release also came six new songs from Taylor’s Vault, some with amazing collabs with artists such as Maren Morris and Keith Urban. I can’t believe Taylor kept these gems from us for all of these years!
But alas, they are finally here and this week I would like to discuss my favorites from Fearless (Taylor’s Version). I hope you all enjoy these re-records and new songs as much as I do!
Fifteen (Taylor’s Version)
Of course, this has to be in my top 3. Out of the entire album, we see how much Taylor’s voice has truly matured. I think this song is one that showcases that growth the most!
To me, Fearless (Taylor’s Version) is a display of what it’s like to grow up. There are hints of nostalgia and relatability in every song, specifically in Fifteen (Taylor’s Version).
In Fifteen (Taylor’s Version), she writes about her best friend Abigail, who she met during her early high school years.
I think this song encapsulates the emotions a typical 15-year-old goes through. The heartbreak of believing anyone who says they love you, and ultimately seeking validation from those around you.
Fifteen-year-old Sydney wanted very different things than I do today. As most people can relate, I too was stubborn and refused to believe my mom when she told me this would be the case.
While the song is heartbreaking, it is also encouraging in that it serves as a reminder that you truly don’t know who you are at that age and that is okay. Reflecting on those years, I think we can all agree we wish we could just speak to our younger selves.
The Way I Loved You (Taylor’s Version)
There isn’t much I can say about this song, just that it is one of my favorite songs of all time and it should be one of yours as well. Just like the song says, it makes you want to scream, fight, kiss in the rain, and curse someone’s name at 2am.
I like to think my 9-year-old self really knew what she was doing when this was also her favorite song from the original album. While not having any experiences with talking to boys yet, or feeling any sort of heartbreak, she was just ahead of her time. Top tier music taste!
But honestly, if this isn’t in your top 3 for Fearless (Taylor’s Version), you should reconsider. I feel very strongly about this song being one of Taylor’s best ever. Absolute masterpiece.
Mr. Perfectly Fine (Taylor’s Version) [From The Vault]
This is one of my favorite From The Vault songs from the album.
It tells a story about one side of a breakup where the person seems to be doing just normal, while the other person is dealing with their grief.
Despite the heartbreaking lyrics, this song is surprisingly upbeat. It’s the kind of song you could cry to, or dance to depending on the day.
Those are my favorites from Fearless (Taylor’s Version)! I am looking forward to the rest of Taylor’s re-recorded albums and the chance to relive the memories I have with her older records.
