My Top Songs from March 2021

I can’t believe we have already made it to April! It feels like it was just January, and now the semester is almost over.
March was a busy month. While I did have spring break, we are reaching that point in the semester where projects and tests are due every other day.
However, a personal highlight of March was turning 22! I had a fun birthday celebrating with my friends and family. And of course, I have been jamming 22 by Taylor Swift all month, as one does! 🙂
I am looking forward to what April has in store as we get closer and closer to summertime!
This week, I would like to share a few songs I have been listening to throughout the past month.
There have been a lot of exciting releases from Dayglow, Taylor Swift, and many other artists this year. Looking forward to the rest of the year, it seems as though this is a great year for new music! There are many albums being released in the coming months that I am very excited about.
Here are a few of my favorites from the month of March:
Something – Dayglow
This short and sweet song was a perfect first look at Struble’s new album, Harmony House, coming in May! The music video is vibrant as usual, and the song overall is the perfect jam for this spring and the nice weather we have been having!
I think the chorus, “Time won’t take nothing, believe me it’s you that takes the time. Tell me if what makes you someone is something, then why can’t I have mine? I’ve waited so long” is really a representation of searching for your own “something” that separates you from everybody else.
We see themes of this idea throughout the song, as he also makes remarks about the act of copying someone else’s “something.”
But ultimately, the listener (or maybe just me, LOL) is left with the realization that finding your own destiny, or your own “something,” is simply a part of the human experience. It is something that takes time; time being an aspect that we often use up on our own without realizing it.
Every aspect of life we get to experience makes up elements of our “something.” This song, to me, serves as encouragement to continue finding that.
Overall, I have been very impressed by the music Dayglow has been releasing recently, and I’m really looking forward to hearing the rest of his album!
More Than A Woman – Bee Gees
This iconic Saturday Night Fever song has recently become a part of a trend on TikTok, and I’m here for it.
I grew up listening to the Bee Gees, and this month I was reminded of how much I love this song. This is a perfect example of how much TikTok influences the music industry.
We saw a similar trend last year with the viral video of a man on a skateboard drinking cranberry juice to Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams.”
I think it is exciting for all ages to see these new trends emerge with classic songs! Not only to resurface nostalgic memories, but to also show younger generations these iconic artists and songs.
Music Sounds Better with You – NEIL FRANCIS
This is the first song I heard from this band, and I’m excited to explore their other songs.
Music Sounds Better with You is the perfect song for driving with the windows down, dancing in your kitchen, or even working out! It has a catchy funk vibe to it and overall, it is a feel-good song.
The chorus is “I feel like music sounds better with you and love might bring us back together. I feel so good,” sooo…how could you not want to dance to it?!
You All Over Me – Taylor Swift (feat. Maren Morris) (Taylor’s Version) (From The Vault)
Of course, I have to talk about what my girl Taylor is doing!! This first song released from her vault did not disappoint. It is definitely a throwback to Taylor’s country days, and her voice with Maren’s is just *chefs kiss.*
The song to me, overall, is about being reminded of a past love everywhere you go. Being from her vault, it is evident this is about a young heartbreak she experienced.
The lines “with your hands in your pockets and your ‘don’t you wish you had me’ grin. But I did, so I smiled, and I melted like a child. Now every breath of air I breathe reminds me of then,” truly showcase how much old memories can follow us.
Taylor is reflecting on someone who used to make her “melt,” and now that they are gone, she is left with the never-ending memories of them.
The song ends with “no amount of freedom gets you clean. I’ve still got you all over me,” meaning that no matter how much time has passed, or how many new memories she has created, this past season of her life follows her everywhere.
Taylor is able to acknowledge that she got deeply hurt from this person, and even admits “I watched a part of myself die,” because of this person’s actions. However, despite the emotional lyrics, it is shown that this experience was one of growth.
Ultimately, she realizes that her and the other individual were not meant to be, and now she is only able to move on from these memories.
I am so excited to see what else Taylor will release from her vault. Her new album, Fearless (Taylor’s Version), will be released next Friday, April 9th! So, expect many more posts about her new songs and re-records.
Those are some of my favorite songs I have been listening to over the past few weeks. These are all a part of my Spring ’21 playlist on Spotify that I will be updating until the end of May.
I hope you all enjoy these songs as well as the others on my playlist. As always, I would love any new song or artist recommendations!
